Robert Josephy

Influential book designer, 1903–1993. After five years at Alfred A. Knopf, he went freelance. “He designed the nascent Viking Press’ first six books, worked for Simon and Schuster and Random House in their early years, became freelancer in high demand, and served as president of and teacher at the Book and Magazine Guild” [University of Iowa Press] Later in life, Josephy became a leading fruit grower, environmentalist and political advocate.
