A first size was cut by Paul Koch in 1933 for his Werkstatt Haus zum Fürsteneck [Klingspor], based on letterforms written by his father Rudolf Koch (1876–1934). Further sizes were added by Klingspor and first cast in 1937. Named after the poet Matthias Claudius.
