This entry is for the four extended weights of the
Venus series;
breit mager (Light Extended, 1911), breit halbfett (Medium
Extended, 1911), breit dreiviertelfett (Bold Extended, 1927), and
breit fett (Extra Bold Extended, before 1915) [Reichardt 2011].
Reichardt implies that the breit fett originated at Wagner &
Schmidt, i.e. as a derivative of Annonce / Aurora-Grotesk V, but with a
vertically cut terminal on ‘r’, diagonally cut terminals on ‘cesS’,
and a beardless ‘G’. ‘EFL’ originally had diagonal terminals as
well [1915
specimen], but these were straightened [undated
note] before 1953 [1953
ad].
For digitizations, Scangraphic’s SG Venus includes
the Medium and Bold Extended. Venusian Ultra NF (Nick’s Fonts, 2014) is
based on the Extra Bold Extended, and Venusian Bold Extended (Wooden Type Fonts,
2018) on the Bold Extended. For less direct interpretations, see
