This entry is for the 4 extended weights of the Venus
series; breit mager (Light Extended, 1911), breit halbfett (Medium
Extended, 1911), breit dreiviertelfett (Bold Extended, 1927), and
breit fett (Extra Bold Extended, before 1915). [Reichardt]
Reichardt implies that the breit fett originated at Wagner &
Schmidt, i.e. as a derivative of Annonce
/ Aurora-Grotesk V, but with horizontal terminals on
curved strokes (‘e’, ‘s’).
For digitizations, Scangraphic’s SG Venus includes
the Medium and Bold Extended. Venusian
Ultra NF (Nick’s Fonts, 2014) is based on the Extra Bold
Extended, and Venusian
Bold Extended (Wooden Type Fonts, 2018) on the Bold
Extended. For less direct interpretations, see also
