SFMOMA’s Open Space is a vibrant forum for critical and personal engagements with art, visual culture, and issues specific to Northern California.

With the redesign of the platform Bosco Hernández, Art Director, introduced new typographic choices:

Text is our prima donna: We wanted the design to emphasize the contributors, the community, and most importantly, the content they produce. This is the reason the site exists, so creating the best possible reading experience, regardless of screen size, was our priority. We chose a serif typeface [FF Franziska] best suited for reading on a digital platform, one that would complement our newly designed custom sans serif typeface, SFMOMA Display [a customized FF Mark].

Unfortunately the formatting for bold and italic type is not always done well.
