Cover, interior card, and labels for a mixtape I send my girlfriend Kenzie for her birthday. The playlist can be listened to here (note: Soundcloud copyright policy means not all the tracks listed on the physical are available).

Since I’ve made one of these once or twice a year for a while now, I’ve started to see these tape covers as a space to experiment with new ways to present basically the same content: the volume number and a list of artists & songs. The small size typically prevents me from getting too wild with it, but Velvetyne’s Pilowlava, a display font with goofy weirdness baked right in, ended up feeling perfect for the job. Neue Machina, a personal favorite from Pangram Pangram, offers a more sensible (but still not devoid of personality) foil that’s better to actually read instead of just decorate.

Both labels look pretty much the same.

Rather tough to set this much information so small. Layering and a somewhat boring grid help.
