Named after a printer in St. Louis [McGrew 1993]. Started with Studley Condensed (shown) in 1897, when the regular-wide style was still in preparation [1897 Inland specimen]. The latter was issued later the same year, followed by Extended (before 1900) [Inland Printer] and Extra Condensed styles.

Typefoundry Amsterdam had the original style as Eureka (1907). Augusta carried it as Libertas (before 1906) with Libertas stretto (before 1914). Caslon’s Osborne Expanded (1901) is a copy of Studley Extended [Reichardt 2011].
