Stempel’s foundry version included 4 condensed styles. The schmalhalbfett,
schmalfett, and Compact originated as Commercial-Grotesk
at Haas. Stempel added the lighter (and rounder) schmalmager in

Helvetica Compact is the schmalhalbfett cast on a
narrower body, offered in sizes 20–72 pt. Also available in poster
sizes, in wood (5–48 cic), synthetic resin (5–20 cic), and
aluminium (6–16 cic).
Helvetica Compact Versalien is a special all-caps
version cast on a smaller body, with compact forms for ‘ÄÖÜQ,’.
