Template Gothic in use for The Cactus Garden, a novel by Robert Ward published in 1995 by Pocket Books. On the jacket, Barry Deck’s iconic sans inspired by vernacular letterforms is used in all caps, black on dark grey, with a bright green drop shadow. Template Gothic’s A – which was the first glyph that Deck drew – has a tapering left leg. Together with the color green, it resembles the spine of the titular cactus.

Matt Galemmo designed the book jacket. The lizard with a lipstick kiss on its back is by Mark and Stephanie Gerber.

Template Gothic is also used for the text on the inner flap, togeher with . The title page is set in , with hideous faux small caps.
