The cover design is by Marvin Israel, at the time art director for Atlantic Records. He worked with a photograph by Garrett-Howard and a typeface named Sphinx éclaire. This all-caps open/inline style accompanied Sphinx, a Fat Face first cast by Deberny & Peignot in 1925. The version used here likely is Photo-Lettering’s adaptation, Sphinx Inline, made before 1950. The design was digitized by Steve Jackaman as Sphinx RR Inline (Red Rooster, 1992), adding a lowercase. Doug Olena is credited with another revival (Keystrokes, 1992), adding a Condensed Inline style.
