Mark Gowing (born 1970) is an artist and designer creating
works centred around the rhythms of language and typography.
Gowing’s output includes the visual arts, typefaces, posters and
books. After beginning his career in publishing at Scholastic and
Rolling Stone Magazine, he founded his own design practice
where he created work for leading cultural institutions. In 2003
Gowing designed and directed the iconic trademark and motion
identity for Hopscotch Films. He has designed posters for the
Sydney Opera House, Hopscotch Films, Entertainment One and the
University of Technology, as well as publications for Sherman
Contemporary Art Foundation, Harper Collins Publishers, Murdoch
Books and leading artists and galleries.

Gowing’s work has been exhibited and published around the world. He has received numerous international awards including the New York Type Directors Club, Tokyo Type Directors Club. In 2008 Mark became the first Australian to win the Gold Medal at the Warsaw International Poster Biennale, which has since been followed by a Golden Bee at the Moscow International Biennale of Graphic Design in 2010 and a Gold Medal at the Mexico International Poster Biennale in 2012.
Gowing is founder of Mark Gowing Studio (1997), Preservation Music (2001), the Australian Poster Biennale (2011), and Formist (2013). Mark is a member of the International Society of Typographic Designers and the Alliance Graphique Internationale.
