Kurt Schwitters

German artist, 1887–1948. Originator of the Merz style, his own private Dada branch in Hanover, and editor of the periodical of the same name. Best known for his collages. Also worked in other genres and media, including constructivism, surrealism, poetry, sound, painting, sculpture, graphic design, typography, and installation art.
