U distinguisher

The hook or swoosh above ‘u’ was a once common means in German-speaking regions to distinguish the letter from ‘n’ in handwriting and lettering. It was indispensable with the zigzag style of Kurrentschrift and can also be found in a few typefaces. See also Flickr.
