A backslanted, open-face, solid-shade sans with similarities to Thorowgood Sans Shaded. Nicolete Gray shows the design (Shaded No. 3) along with a solid-face, ray-shade variant (Shaded No. 2), both attributed to the Figgins foundry in 1873. That date seems late, as she also shows a very similar design with reversed coloring (solid-face, open-shade) credited to Thorowgood in 1841, shown as Gothic Shaded by MS&J. See Shaded No. 2.
