Started as a custom typeface made for the 2019 redesign of The Atlantic, with design direction by Peter Mendelsund and Oliver Munday. Inspired by the original nameplate as used for the first issues from 1857, and specimens in the Scotch Roman genre with a uniquely American flavor. The family was expanded into two widths in a range of weights in 2022. Design by Jeremy Mickel with assistance by Douglas Hayes. As of July 2024, Atlantic is available for beta licensing.
