Commissioned from Microsoft in the 1990s, MingLiU (細明體) was made by the Taiwanese foundry DynacomWare, to be included in Windows 3.1. It is an inept copy of Honran Minchō, a photocomposition typeface developed by the Japanese foundry, Sha-ken (写研). PMingLiU (新細明體) is an updated version. [Peiran Tan]
