ABC 1981 Fall Preview: Now Is The Time
Of the various TV network promos added to our Collection today, this one takes the cake for the cheesiest. It oozes with typical 1980s overacting (the fodder for many a GIF meme), sparkly computerized effects, and upbeat electric-guitar-laced muzak.
The multilined title appears in a few different variations: Neon-esque, inline, multiline, and solid. It may be pure lettering or it may be derived from Prismania or one of the many similar font sets available in the 1970s and ’80s (see Churchward Design Lines, Bauhaus Prisma, and Futura Prisma). Palisade Graphic and Glaser Stencil also make an appearance.
The graphics were produced by Robert Abel & Associates, well known in the early 1980s for their advanced computer-aided animation for film and advertising. Here’s a demo reel of their other work as of 1982.
