According to Chris Burkhart, the Path logo was designed by Dustin Mierau. It uses Coquette by Mark Simonson.

According to TechCrunch, Path is currently trying to prevent Pinterest from using its custom designed ‘P’ as an icon.

This could be a fascinating battle to watch given that US law offers no protection (beyond font software) for alphabets or typeface designs. If one is allowed to use a letter from a typeface as a trademarked logo, perhaps the way for type designers to protect their work is to invent a “brand” for each glyph in their typeface and trademark it as a logo. ;)

No, putting it like this is not accurate. To quote TechCrunch directly:

Instead, Path is looking here to only stop Pinterest from gaining the design trademark, which it could then use against Path and others if it chose.
