A publication at the occasion of Une Aventure Moderne, an exhibition in the Centre Pompidou about the ‘Union des Artistes Modernes’ (Union of Modern Artists). UAM was a large movement of architects, decorators, furniture designers, painters, sculptors, photographers, fabric and jewelery designers, graphic designers and posters.
A model borrowing graphic codes reviews, the catalog UAM, Une aventure moderne is characterized by abundant iconography, which seems essential to trace, in images, the genesis of French design.
The catalog was designed by Anaïs Lancrenon with two French typefaces. Maax, created by Damien Gautier and available from 205TF. The designer chose to use Maax’ ‘modern’ set, a variation on the default character set with a flat top 3, a single story a and pointed apexes on characters like A, M, W, Z. For title and title pages, the solid weight of Acier is used — a design by French poster artist & type designer Cassandre. Acier was revived by BAT and is now available from Production Type.
