Toba Seydou Traoré (d. 2017) was a Malian hunter’s musician, an inheritor of an ancient tradition equally significant as oral literature and even moreso (to the hunters) as spiritual intermediation. He was a master of the hunter’s harp, the donso ngoni, seen on the cover.
The anonymous designer inflicts significant violence onITC Avant Garde Gothic, but to appropriate ends; despite the heavy, haunting sound of the music, Traoré was apparently known for his comic sensibility and this is well reflected in the cover art.
