Atelier EGR is an architecture practice run by Frédéric Einaudi, Maxime Gil, and Anthony Rodrigues, based in Marseille, France. Their philosophy is to conceive architectural projects in a cultural continuity to the respective space and therefore take on as much a responsibility towards the environment as a sensible approach to the population. The founders are also engaged in research, being part of the European editorial structure Cosa Mentale and contributing to the collective Khora which questions the future of suburban areas. This multifaceted approach of architecture is also an exigency towards their own practice, which is rendered in the design of their studio identity.

For the website, Building Paris opted for a sober and clear design, reflecting the transparency of Atelier EGR’s functional architecture. The light gray background brings a softness that most black-and-white websites don’t show, and the shade of gray used for passive texts makes the website very legible. The peculiarity of the design lies in the typographic choice of Kessler from Production Type. The inscriptional structure of the font brings immediately to mind the notion of construction, as judiciary texts were originally carved into the walls of the antic city, first steps of the architecture considered as a means of power. This reverential aspect sheds light on the importance of architecture in society, especially when it is used in caps. One of the pages of the website is dedicated to a manifesto that seems to be directly carved into the surface of the screen: black caps on a dark gray background, telling us that “we still want to believe in architecture and in its power of transformation”.
