MENT Ljubljana is a three-days music festival taking place once a year in the capital of Slovenia. It is focused on the local, regional and European contemporary music scene and aims at presenting a wide range of styles and bands, no matter their experience or international recognition. This leads to a fresh and original program praised by national and international media. They also offer conferences on the music industry and the creation related to it, having notably organized a graphic design exhibition.
For their identity, MENT put the accent on the diversity of the bands and styles programmed through the use of colorful, more or less abstract illustrations, and a multi-colored website, where each section of a single page has a specific color code. This accumulation of color blocks gives an impression of heterogeneity while at the same time taking the reader into a playful assemblage of shapes and pictures. The typeface used for the identity is Stratos from Production Type. The peculiarity of Stratos lies in the difference between caps and lowercase letters: while the caps look like 19th-century wooden grotesque typefaces, the lowercase is more evocative of a geometric sans serif. This difference is played up in MENT’s identity, where the logotype set in caps has a quality of its own, while all other texts are set in standard mixed case. The geometric aspects of Stratos echo the vectorial, schematized illustrations and therefore, give coherence and unity to the whole. In a way, Stratos exemplifies the directive idea behind the concept of the festival: bringing together multiple influences in order to offer a contemporary and ever-changing scene.
