Bauer’s Schmale Akzidenz-Gotisch in use for an ad from 1897 for a Nuremberg specialty, Ochsenmaulsalat. Christian Harrer, who ran a cannery on Karlstrasse 13, offered barrels of ten pounds for 3.70 Mark, to be delivered by mail. He also advertised various flavors of pickled gherkins. “Nürnberg” is set in a version of Latin Antique, a design that was known in Germany as Breite Etienne. The other typefaces including the narrower Etienne are not identified.
