UC Propone is a project by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where students and the academic community propose topics and the university then organizes different classes to research some of these. Each course has students from different majors, thus forming interdisciplinary teams that carry out the research. At the end of the course, each team prepares a paper with the findings of their investigations. This book compiles all the academic documents from the year 2019.
I chose to work with only two colors – black and magenta – to reduce the cost of printing so they could print more copies. I was handed Word documents with text, citations, figures and tables that I redesigned in Adobe InDesign to achieve a coherent look throughout the book.
I used Amaranth as a quirky but very readable type for titles and some highlighted text, and Open Sans for the copy for its modern look and readability. Both typefaces are free for commercial use, which was a plus because the institution didn’t have too many resources for the project. I also used open source images from pexels and my own photos for each chapter cover.
