Halyard and Joane are the new brand typefaces of the Mellon Foundation.
The Mellon Foundation is the largest funder of the arts and humanities in the United States. In 2022, Pentagram’s Eddie Opara and team developed a new visual identity, anchored by a dynamic letter M. The symbol is paired with a wordmark based on Joane by W Type Foundry. Halyard by Darden Studio is the primary brand typeface.
While Joane serves for the logo as well as for larger headings, Halyard takes care of all other textual aspects of the brand. Used in two of its size-optimized subfamilies, Halyard Display and Halyard Text, the sans serif can be seen in use for wayfinding, in printed publications, and of course on the foundation’s website.
