This was originally called as “Navy Cut,” designed in 1971 by Albert Boton for Hollenstein, after stencilling he’d encountered on a life buoy.
Thank you, Nicholas, much appreciated. I see that Navy Cut was also carried by Mecanorma.
According to Boton’s biographer, Olivier Nineuil, Mecanorma released Navy Cut in 1985. Nineuil has digitized many of Boton’s faces, including this one in 2011. I don’t know yet what the plan is for retail availability.
