Bartuska Satanic for “the doomsday book of the nuclear age”, written by Martin Caidin (1927–1997) and published by William Morrow in 1972.

Satanic is an all-caps slab with bevelled corners, and could be described as a modernized Grecian (1800s), with echoes of City Bold (1930), or as a serifed precursor to ITC Machine (1970). It was drawn by Frank Bartuska before 1965. Here it’s supported by News Gothic. Coincidentally, Bartuska is also credited with one style in this classic ATF series started by Morris F. Benton: he added the Condensed Bold in 1965.

Via Fanastic Fiction:

We all know there will never be another major war. Nevertheless, we spend billions annually to prevent war by preparing for war, and every few years the wall seems to crumble a bit more as other nations get nuclear bombs. Where are we today with our nuclear and chemical weapons? What about those 6400 sheep and 1700 head of cattle we killed accidentally with nerve gas in 1968? Have we really destroyed existing stockpiles of biological weapons? How did we devise such a combination of horrors? What will happen if we ever decide to use them even in limited ways? How often have we been on the edge of nuclear disaster? What ever happened to civil defense? What should we do to prevent the end of the world we know? Are we willing to face the truth? In this book you will find perspectives and answers to these questions.
