De Schreef is the 42nd solo theatre show of Dutch comedian/author Freek de Jonge:

In De Schreef, Freek de Jonge plays an elderly gentleman who doesn’t care about laws and conventions. This way he manages to stay afloat in an increasingly crazy world.

De Jonge may be nearly 80, but he won’t sit still! In fact, he seems more productive than ever, as his books, shows and performances follow in rapid succession. And he is still as sharp as ever, not hiding his critical opinion.

The name of the show can be translated in two ways. The Dutch expression “over de schreef gaan” means something like ‘going too far, crossing a red line’. Different ideas circulate about the origin of that word “schreef”. According to some, it was once a word for line, border, or cut. Another theory is that the schreef was a medieval measuring stick to determine whether city visitors had to pay taxes over their weapons (swords, knifes). Today, the only common uses of the word “schreef” are the past tense of write (“wrote”) and the typographical meaning that designer Paul Roos has indulged in on this poster: a “schreef” is a serif; a “schreefletter” is a serif typeface.

Presti is the latest release by Petr van Blokland: a variable font in a wide range of weights and optical sizes with an abundant amount of swashes in multiple sizes – not only stemming from serifs, but starting on almost any place where a typographer may wish to find one.
