Dapifer and Geomanist are the two brand typefaces used for the online presence of VegNews.

Founded in 2000, VegNews aims to be “the ultimate source for all things vegan”. The world’s largest plant-based media brand [Wikipedia] encompasses a flagship magazine, international vacations, a podcast, and more. On their award-winning website, VegNews uses Atipo’s sans-serif Geomanist for body copy and menu items. Headlines are shown in Dapifer.

The low-contrast slab serif by Darden Studio is employed with great care for typographic detail: each article beginning is marked by a drop cap – implemented as live text with webfonts and CSS – and a mix of Dapifer Italic with roman caps for the byline. There even are typographically correct apostrophes, which still is a rare sight on the web, certainly on big media sites. Kudos to the designers involved!

The VegNews logo is based on Erik Spiekermann’s FF Meta Bold. The type palette is perfected by Born Ready, a spirited script by Nicky Laatz which is used for subheads on the recipe pages as well as for other bits like the “Let’s connect!” call to action in the footer.
