This book presents the work of the French contemporary artist Pierre Huyghe. Edited by Emma Lavigne, the book explores recurring themes in Huyghe’s œuvre, such as nature, time, and identity. The book is richly illustrated with photographs of his installations, performances, and sculptures. It is a must-read for lovers of contemporary art interested in Huyghe’s work.
Graphic design of Pierre Huyghe’s monograph, published in 2013 on the occasion of his exhibition at the Centre Pompidou (curator: Emma Lavigne), and produced in close collaboration with the artist. The artist wanted to make this book a real working tool, distinct from his previous publications, and which would bring together all of his work produced since 1986. The structure of the book follows a simple and clear graphic line, deliberately discreet, which leaves all its place to the iconography. The placement of the images frees itself from the traditional layout grids, and allows a great variety of visuals to coexist in an almost organic way.
On the cover we find the name of Pierre Huyghes in a decomposed form, suggesting a convoluted reading from left to right and from top to bottom – an untraditional reading and cover. The choice of a white background with black type in a Helvetica – probably Neue Helvetica Black – allows the design to focus on the layout of the letters.
The monograph was published in two language versions, in French by Éditions Centre Pompidou and in English (with German insert) by Hirmer.
