Typographic knee-jerk reactions, 2/2: Gothic type for a gothic story.

The posters — at least the German ones — for Jim Jarmusch’s romance drama vampire film Only Lovers Left Alive use FF Brokenscript. I approve of this. It’s a stereotype, but a fine one. The contemporary blackletter in pale pink does a great job here.

    2. Awarded by Indiewire for “Best Typeface” used for a 2014 film:

The evocative, throwback Gothic font used for the titles of “Only Lovers Left Alive” (and also used on its poster — we believe it’s Brokenscript, for all you designers out there) is the only time we remember a typeface getting a laugh and ripple of applause at Cannes.
