Rabbit Punch at the Galloping Ghost Arcade, Chicago

Originally called Rabio Lepus in Japan, Rabbit Punch is the American version of a scrolling shooter game developed by V-System in 1987 and licenced to Bally Midway.

The game logo is based on Quicksilver, redrawn with bouncing glyphs, more angular shapes (in P and B), and a twisted R. Dean Morris’s original 1976 design for Letraset is still clearly recognizable, though.

  1. It’s interesting that the letters in the video game itself are closer to Quicksilver than on the cabinet. It makes me wonder if the graphics in the game were based on the font, but the lettering on the cabinet was an interpretation of the graphics in the game by someone not aware of the font.

  2. That would explain it, yes! I love me such typographic telephone games.
