DIN A1 poster for a 1972 re-release of John Huston’s The Misfits from 1961. The Contemporary Western film was written by Arthur Miller and stars Marilyn Monroe alongside Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift. It was the last completed film for both Gable and Monroe. In Germany, it’s known as Misfits – Nicht gesellschaftsfähig. All text uses Compacta Bold Italic, set on an angle.
The design was made by Isolde Baumgart (1935–2011) for Neue Filmkunst Walter Kirchner. Baumgart started working on commissions by the film distributor already in the 1950s while studying in Kassel under Hans Leistikow and Hans Hillmann. In 1973, she married Jim Monson and changed her name to Monson-Baumgart.
