Made at Berthold before 1898. [Reichardt
2011] Appears to be a recutting of Lafayette
(Central, 1885), with some changes. Most notably, stems in ‘abd’
etc. don’t descend and have horizontal instead of diagonal serifs,
strokes in ‘mnuw’ are straight instead of curved, ‘r’ doesn’t have
a dangling terminal. Shown in Petzendorfers
Schriftenatlas (1903–1905) with credits to Bauer & Co.,
Stuttgart, and H. Berthold, Berlin. (Bauer & Co.
was acquired by Berthold in 1898 and is not to be confused with the
Bauersche
Gießerei in Frankfurt.)
A film version is shown in Castcraft’s Encyclopedia
(1978).
