Designed by Jay H. Schechter and first shown by Photo-Lettering in Jan. 1963 under the name Schechter Marksman Gothic, in two weights (with oblique variants) and with various alternates [1963 Supplement Preview].
Issued by VGC as Jay Gothic. The bold weight was among the winners in a competition sponsored by Visual Graphics Corporation in 1965, and the regular weight won the next year. Photo-Lettering adopted the new name, too, changing from Marksman Gothic to Jay Gothic [PLINC One Liner 1971].
Digitizations by Castcraft as OPTI Jaffa Gothic Bold (1990) and, extended to four weights, by URW.
