Sonsbeek was started by Indra Kupferschmid during an internship with Fred Smeijers in Arnhem in 1997, initially in italic only, and named after the nearby Sonsbeek park. Further developed for her diploma thesis at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in 1998, with roman, small caps, bold. Sonsbeek Eco is the name of a revision with narrower proportions.
