Matthew Carter wondered why no Latin typefaces with Bodoni proportions had been developed, and why no Bodonis had Latin serifs. He answered his own question by drawing Rocky Regular and Bold, with matching italics, to fill the gap. Richard Lipton later helped him expand the family. For editorial work, Rocky provides a sharp spot of typographic “color.” It was the signature headline series for Roger Black’s redesign of the Rocky Mountain News. Originally published by Font Bureau in 2008, Rocky is now available through Carter & Cone at Type Network.
