Initiated and supervised by Erasmus Luther, the first size was
started in 1679 at the Egenolff-Luthersche Schriftgießerei in
Frankfurt. All sizes were completed not before 1708, partly with
significant design changes. [Kapr: Fraktur] Stempel
acquired the original matrices in 1920 and reissued the typeface in
sizes from 6 to 48pt. [Stempel
ad, Seemann] Also adapted for the Linotype with a halbfett.
[Seemann 1929 addendum] In 1934, Stempel issued a revised version
as Neue Luthersche Fraktur, cut in-house in mager
(14–72pt) and halbfett (14–48pt).
Volker Küster’s
Neue Luthersche Fraktur (Scangraphic, 1984) is a
reinterpretation that merges typical features of the diverse sizes.
Comes in Regular, Medium, and Titel (Titling). [Elsner+Flake]
Dieter Steffmann’s DS Luthersche (2012/2015) appears
to be a copy.

Typoart Luthersche Fraktur was designed by Herbert Lemme in 1986, but probably released only in 2009 or later by Elsner+Flake. Comes in Headline (TH) and Text (TB) sizes, each in 2 weights, plus a single Index (TI) size. [Elsner+Flake]
Fraktur BT (Bitstream, 1990–93) and the virtually identical Luthersche Fraktur (Linotype, before 1996) are different from several historical showings in many details.
Further digizations include Jubiläums-Fraktur (Gerhard Helzel, 1994, based on 12pt) and Luthersche Fraktur WF (Walden Font).
