AKA Eight Ball. Designer unknown. It may have been designed by Ursula Suess. [Arthur Baker, via Devroye et al.] Released sometime before VGC’s 1972 catalog. Several alternates such as swashes and one- and two-story ‘a/g’. Also carried by Lettergraphics (as Eightball) and by Typeshop (as Bertha), with swash alternates. Formatt called it Smile and FotoStar Socker (with an Open style). A related but much cruder design was issued by Alphabet Innovations in 1971, see Eightball (Alphabet Innovations).
Digitized as Egbert (FontBank, 1991) and, with original and new alternates, as Orotund (Canada Type, 2005). Latter is used for the sample.
