“This face was first shown as wood type by Darius Wells and E.R. Webb [as Gothic Tuscan] in their 1849 Specimen of Plain and Ornamental Wood Type. Kelly noted that this style most likely originated as a wood type in America. Ornamented variations appeared in Page’s 1859 Specimens of Wood Type.” [RRK]
