Designed by F.H. Ehmcke in 1907 and cut by Louis Hoell in 1908. [Bertheau] Comes with alternates for ‘P’ and ‘T’. [Reichardt/Hoefer] The italic companion Ehmcke-Kursiv followed in 1910. The regular was also cast by Caslon as Carlton (1911, without the long ‘s’ and with a non-kerning ‘f’ [Bertheau]) and by Neufville as Antigua Cervantes. [Reichardt 2011]

Letraset’s revival and the digital versions thereof use the English name, see Carlton. Yuanchen Jiang’s digitization, Antiqua Roman (2017), comes closer to the original. Unfortunately, it appears to be missing many cap-to-lowercase kerns.
