Designed by Ch. H. Kleukens and cut by Gustav Eichenauer for the exclusive use of the Mainzer Presse. The initial 14pt size was first used in 1928 for a broadsheet with Hermann Burte’s text Gesprochen an der offenen Gruft. A 10pt size was first used for the novel Der Flurschütz by Alfred Bock (Ernst-Ludwig-Presse, 1929). Larger sizes in 36pt and 48pt followed. [Harald Ernstberger, Kleukens Archiv] Comes with several ligatures (incl. ‘au’, ‘ge’) and a few alternates.
Manfred Klein made a rough and incomplete digitization in 2003 (used for the sample), adding 3 lighter variations as Burtine, Burtinomatic, Burtinomatic DemiBold.
