The Hiragino series was undertaken collaboratively by Dainippon Screen and Jiyu-kobo (字游工房), a small foundry set up by Tsutomu Suzuki, Osamu Torinoumi [Peiran Tan] and Keiichi Katada [Basset] One weight (W4) of Hiragino Maru Gothic (ヒラギノ丸ゴ) comes bundled with Apple Mac OS.
