First started in the early 1960s by Gert Wunderlich at Typoart, building on a proof possibly made by Herbert Thannhaeuser from 1961–62 titled Lektor-Antiqua. The unfinished project was resumed in the mid 1980s, now for the Digiset. The end of the GDR and Typoart again prevented the project from being completed. In close collaboration with Wunderlich, Reymund Schröder took up the work on Lector in 2015. It was eventually released with Forgotten Shapes in 2018.
