A series of geometric sans serifs by Gans, spanning 13 styles;
3 weights (fina,
semi-negra, negra) and 1 style with larger x-height
(editorial) plus italics, 2 condensed (estrecha
fina and negra) weights, grís,
bicolor, and Lúmina styles. [Reichardt] The first
two weights, fina and semi-negra, each with
all-caps Titular variants, were issued in c. 1929 and seem to be a version or copy of
Erbar-Grotesk
(Ludwig & Mayer, 1926). Like Erbar, they came with several
alternate caps (‘ABEFGHKMNPRSVW’ were available in both
corrientes, i.e. ordinary and fantasía forms).
Accompanied by borders and ornaments. With the exception of
Lúmina, the series was still cast by Gans in the mid
1960s.
Dimas García attributes the design to Carl(os)
Winkow and dates it to 1922. [García

Dimas García attributes the design to Carl(os) Winkow and dates it to 1922. [García 2006] It’s indeed shown in a Gans specimen book first published in 1922, but on pages that are not listed in the index and hence were probably added later. A line in the specimen text saying “Zeppelin 1929” suggests a date in the late 1920s, cf. the round-the-world flight of LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin.
Radar (Type-Ø-Tones, 2019) is a digital revival and is used for the sample.
