The words on this tin can are clearly lettered, but they are closely modeled after Roger Excoffon’s Mistral. Even minor details like the spur at the lower curve of the ‘S’ (actually an implied connecting stroke that only makes sense when followed by a lowercase letter) have been replicated. This is a fine example for our tag “lettering derived from typeface”. Excoffon’s typeface designs frequently serve as models for handmade letterforms.
