Origin unclear. Apparently an adaptation of Milton Glaser’s
Baby
Fat Black (in or before 1966), but without lowercase.
Differences most notable in ‘JQ14&’ and the left shadow of
round glyphs. Used already
in 1969. Shown in Fürst’s 1970 catalog as Buxom,
without source credits. Shown in a VGC catalog (1972) with alias
M-18, indicating it was adopted from Filmotype. Shown
in the 5th revised edition (1976) of Lettera 2 as
Buxom, with a Headliners credit and a “ca. 1970” date.
Adopted by Letraset in their Letragraphica range as Fat

catalog as Buxom. Shown in the Phil’s Photo
catalog (1980) as Baby Fat Black. Typeshop shows a
