    1. Why do the little “e” in the subheads have these steep horizontal lines, I can not really find them in the Avant Garde Gothic Condensed? :)

    2. Hi Miro,

      That e with angled bar is one of the alternates of ITC Avant Garde Gothic Condensed. These alternate glyphs as well as several fancy ligatures were included in Ed Benguiat’s original phototype design for ITC, and correspond to those found in the regular-wide ITC Avant Garde Gothic by Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase. They also appear in Letraset’s adaptation for dry-transfer lettering, which might have been the format used for this cover design.

      You can see the full glyph set of the four condensed weights in the inaugural issue of U&lc magazine from 1973 (page 18).

      While ITC’s latest digitization of the regular-wide ITC Avant Garde Gothic has these extras, they unfortunately didn’t make it into their digital version of the condensed styles.
