“Screw You” Collection
Following up on research into the worrisome percentage of adults who are unable to assemble flat-pack furniture, I asked myself: how simple can the assembly be?
Instead of furniture arriving with a cache of dowels, screws and hex keys, I simplified the theory behind the assembly by oversizing the fixtures, making the collection require zero tooling and just make use of the leisurely rotation of the plus-sized bolts for assembly.
Instead of being a hidden internal feature, the bolts now become part of the furniture’s unique visual character. The relaxed nature of the bolts was carried over into the “Memphis” inspired asymmetrical designs. Their bright, non-uniform shapes are cut in a higgledy-piggledy manner to compliment the simplified bolt assembly.
To add a graphic touch to the design, I printed directly onto the stainless steel bolts. I wanted to play with the circular form of the bolts and also the directional usage of rotating them clockwise to lock the table together.
I decided to use Montserrat Bold as I found at heavier weights the typeface had a charming aesthetic: not too clean and not too goofy. I also liked how it has a true circular-looking capital O and C which – when used to write “SCREW YOU” – kind of make it look like a smiley face.

What font is that on the website?
The one on eddieolin.com? It’s referenced as Eendspace. Probably custom. I don’t think it’s a published font. Maybe Eddie can shed light on its origin.
