For his latest book, Caladas de Cuba, travel book writer Manuel Madrid commissioned us to design a limited edition that the reader will keep.
The book design aims to reflect the author’s intention to capture the intensity that he felt in that country in a specific moment, such as the opening of the American Embassy in Cuba. This justifies the name, the format and the colours employed.
Some condensed and heavy styles of Knockout were picked for all headlines and page numbers. The body text is set with Caslon 224, and the “Viva Cuba” stamp on the box uses Gill Sans.
